ÖBV-Via Campesina was founded in 1974, serving as a grass root representation of interest of Austrian mountain farmers. During the years Via Campesina Austria became the reservoir for many small and medium scale farmers whose interest are in opposite to mainstream agrarian policy. We aim to support an environmental friendly and social friendly agriculture as well as the living of farmers. We try to achieve our aims by lobbying and by information for farmers and the interested society as well as by regional education work, always emphasising bottom-up strategies (e.g. workshops, lectures, seminars).
